Sand Filter
Structure and filter material: It is usually a cylindrical container filled with filter materials such as quartz sand. Quartz sand particles vary in size, with the upper layer being a finer sand layer and the lower layer being a coarser sand layer.
Working principle: When water flows in from the top of the sand filter and passes through the filter material layer, suspended solids, colloids, and other impurities in the water are trapped on the surface and pores of the filter material, thereby achieving preliminary purification of the water. As filtration progresses, the filter material will gradually be blocked by impurities, and when it reaches a certain level, backwashing is required. During backwashing, the water flow direction is opposite to the normal filtering direction. Through the impact and friction of the water flow, impurities trapped on the filter material are washed away, restoring the filtering performance of the filter material.
Function: It mainly removes impurities such as sediment and rust from larger particles in water, reduces water turbidity, provides a relatively clean water source for subsequent water treatment steps, and protects subsequent equipment from damage caused by large particle impurities.
Carbon Filter
Structure and filter material: The interior is filled with activated carbon, which has a rich microporous structure and a huge specific surface area.
Working principle: By utilizing the adsorption effect of activated carbon, when water passes through the activated carbon layer, residual chlorine, organic matter, pigments, odors and other substances in the water are adsorbed on the surface of the activated carbon. The adsorption of activated carbon includes physical adsorption and chemical adsorption. Physical adsorption is based on intermolecular attraction, while chemical adsorption is the chemical reaction between the active groups on the surface of activated carbon and the adsorbed substance.
